Growth
A child’s brain undergoes significant growth and development until they reach their mid-twenties, which necessitates a more conservative and tailored approach to psychiatric care. Unlike adults, children and adolescents are in a critical neural and psychological maturation phase. Their cognitive functions, emotional regulation, and social skills are still evolving. This makes them more vulnerable to the impact of environmental influence on mental health. Effective psychiatric care for this age group must be adaptive, focusing on developmental stages and providing age-appropriate interventions. By recognizing the unique needs of a developing brain, the clinicians at Open Minds Mental Health can foster resilience, promote healthy development, and address the specific challenges this age group faces.

support
Open Minds is honored to participate in the mental health journey of children and adolescents throughout Tennessee. At Open Minds, we prioritize a therapy-first approach to care. With a dedication to holistic wellness, our practice fosters an environment of open and honest communication among patients, families, therapists, and providers. By nurturing this collaborative dialogue, we empower young people to freely express their thoughts and emotions, facilitating a deeper understanding of their mental health needs. Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners at Open Minds emphasize conservative prescribing practices, striving to achieve optimal symptom control while minimizing potential side effects. Through early intervention and the aforementioned practice standards, we strive for a future where every young individual can thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.

healing
Navigating symptom control among children and adolescents is a nuanced journey influenced by a multitude of factors. From biological predispositions to environmental triggers, each individual presents a unique puzzle to solve. In our pursuit of effective treatment, we acknowledge the dynamic nature of healing. Medical interventions, which are often the cornerstone of symptom management, require patience and perseverance. It's not uncommon for the full benefits to unfold gradually, spanning anywhere from 8 weeks to 6 months. This timeframe underscores the importance of perseverance and trust in the process. Over the first six months of treatment, we will assess symptom management every 2-4 weeks, either in person or via telehealth. If significant progress is not achieved within 6 months, we pivot. Our staff will work with you and your family to either offer resources for a second opinion that is in network with your insurance plan or assist you in finding a higher level of care to address any ongoing symptoms.
